Born in 1929, Jon Bannenberg earned international recognition for his innovative yachts. A legendary figure in marine world, Bannenberg grew up in Australia and studied music. After moving to England in his 20s, he dedicated the first part of his career to selling antiquities and running an interior design firm with his wife.
In the 1960s, one of Jon Bannenberg’s friends showed him designs for his new yacht. Bannenberg criticized the look and created new plans, which were utilized in the building of the boat. The end product served as a centerpiece of the 1963 London Boat Show. This earned him several contracts, but he did not receive major attention until the launching of Carinthia VI in 1972. With its unconventional look and tremendous size, the Carinthia VI became an icon in the seafaring community and one of the first megayachts. Jon Bannenberg passed away in 2002.
