Nabila Khashoggi has transformed her lifelong passion for cosmetics and skincare products into an entrepreneurial endeavor. Her company, NabilaK, offers scented products such as bubble baths, lotions, and candles, all of which contain natural ingredients and are free of harmful chemicals. Nabila Khashoggi integrates these healthy principals into her own life, making efforts to eat and shop organically.

In order to be sold as “organic,” crops must be grown in a specific way. Farmers of organic crops do not use fertilizers containing petroleum or sewage sludge, opting instead for natural options such as compost or manure. Additionally, they manage weed growth without chemicals, using natural techniques such as crop rotation, mulching, or hand weeding. Organic produce also contains fewer pesticides than conventional products. When pesticides are used in organic farming, they typically consist of plant matter that enriches the surrounding soil.

Meat, eggs, and dairy products can also be considered organic. To produce organic products, livestock must be fed organically and raised in natural environments that allow access to the outdoors. Livestock must also be cared for without the use of growth hormones, antibiotics, or animal by-products.

In grocery stores, organic products can be identified by the USDA Organic seal. Only foods that contain organic ingredients at a level of 95 percent or greater may use the seal, while foods that are at least 70 percent organic may display organic ingredients on their packaging.
